Summary Salary for Downingtown, PA. GS-12: $95,694 (Step 01) through $124,398 (Step 10). This is not a remote position. Responsibilities As a Physical Scientist for the Hydrologic Studies Unit in the Downingtown Office, within the Pennsylvania Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: Serve as a liaison between employees and Federal/State Governments, local offices, and private organizations who are affected by, or otherwise have a shared interest in, geologic, geomorphic, and hydrologic practices and problems in the regional area. Plan, direct, and/or carry out complex scientific studies that describe and interpret hydrologic conditions in order to define, analyze, forecast, or describe both natural and human-induced hydrologic changes in the area. Determine the overall nature, scope, and approach for water-resources investigations that will effectively address identified hydrologic problems and needs. Evaluate and determine alternative approaches, data collection methods, and analytical procedures to assure that project objectives are met, and results are valid and reliable. Write interpretive technical articles and reports that document the objectives, scope, approach, results, and conclusions of water-resource investigations. Operate a government vehicle as an incidental driver. Physical Demands: Field assignments involve outdoor work where there is considerable walking and climbing over rough or mountainous terrain. The work may require physical exertion such as lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crawling in restrictive spaces and defending oneself against physical attack. + For engineers, possession of a valid Professional licensure, ability to obtain within one year, or in career pursuit; For geologists, possession of a valid Professional licensure, ability to obtain within one year, or in career pursuit. For NJDEP-experienced environmental practitioners, interest in the SRP program and potential LSRP licensure.

+ Experience conducting Phase I, II and III environmental site assessment including drilling observation, sampling, well installation, construction/remediation oversight;

+ Experience performing small and large scale groundwater treatment system design, operation and maintenance, and optimization;

+ Experience on large-scale brownfields redevelopment, petroleum refineries, or industrial remediation projects is desired.

+ Experience providing litigation support services for expert witness projects, or similar;

+ General understanding of the NJDEP Site Remediation Program, Pennsylvania Act 2 and Storage Tank regulatory requirements, and Federal (EPA/CERCLA) requirements. DNREC regulatory experience a plus. An eagerness to navigate regulatory and technical challenges is desired.

Summary This position serves as a technical specialist and advisor providing engineering/geology-related support in the investigation of complex ground control problems and fatal roof/rib fall accidents, evaluation and application of ground support technology, design and use of cabs and canopies and automated temporary roof support (ATRS) systems, and remote sensing lineament analyses, and underground mine stress analysis and design. This position is inside the bargaining unit. Responsibilities Serves as a Technical Support representative on accident investigation teams involved in ground control related accidents in coal, metal, and nonmetal mines. Provides expert advice and court testimony during hearings pertaining to ground control accident investigations. Develops training materials and services as a presenter for courses held for MSHA personnel and the mining industry. Utilize both technical and practical experience to evaluate the effectiveness of mine roof supports, establish criteria and/or specifications, and develop safe installation practices and procedures. Independently conducts or leads a team of engineers and geologists in conducting, engineering studies and/or geological evaluations of complex ground control problems. Provides ground control-related consulting and advisory services of a complex nature to MSHA, the mining industry and other government agencies. Authors and reviews drafts of technical manuscripts, evaluates current and proposed research projects, and suggests areas of research necessary to improve mine safety and to gain compliance with provisions of the Mine Health and Safety act. Description:

MUST HAVES

Must have 0-1 years experience

MUST HAVE Bachelor’s degree in geology, engineering geology, geological engineering or civil engineering.

Concentration in Geophysics

Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

MUST BE OKAY WITH HEAVY TRAVEL/OVERNIGHT STAYS IN HOTELS

Apply sound engineering or geologic principles in all aspects of work.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing as required, to supervisors, clients, contractors and other outside parties.

Be proficient with Microsoft Office and 2D AutoCAD and be fully capable of learning and operating company-developed desktop and mobile applications needed to carry out day-to-day activities.

Geotech degree is helpful because they have the design background

Masters degree is also acceptable, internship work would work as well

The successful candidate, who must have a degree in a geology or civil engineering discipline, will be trained to perform basic geophysical field surveys (e.g., electrical resistivity, ground penetrating radar and utility locating), and to observe and document geotechnical and geologic investigations (e.g., test borings, test pits, etc.) on project sites that will generally be located throughout Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Southern New York.

MUST BE AWARE THAT THIS THERE IS HEAVY TRAVEL FOR THIS ROLE!

If a project is round trip over four hours, the company recommends a hotel. This could be 1 day a week- several days depending on the project. This consultant will go where the work is. Majority of the time is in the field. MUST be locked down on travel/ hotel stays.

Will be reimbursed on a per diem/direct expense basis.

Hotel stays will get a meal stipend
