Come be a part of the only Private Licensed Academic School within UPMC! This small group of 5-6 teachers is looking to add a Developmental Specialist to the team. As the Developmental Specialist you will provide daily instruction to patients, ages 13-18, in Western Psychiatric Hospital’s inpatient units. Your daily activities will include assessing patients, planning their lessons, monitoring their progress, and communicating with their home school. In addition, the Developmental Specialist will communicate with the treatment team on a regular basis regarding each patient's classroom performance and behavior. This team strives to always put the needs of their students first and are looking for a candidate who aims to uphold those same values!
**Must be a Certified Special Education Teacher.**
**Responsibilities:**
+ Write daily lesson plans for each student assigned. Plan for Monday thru Friday are due by the end of the previous week.
+ Inform school of student's progress, including discharge summaries.
+ Communicate on a regular basis with the student's home school.
+ Conduct instructional sessions for 3 hours each day.
+ Observe and record academic progress and patient behavior. Present information at treatment team meetings each week.
+ Collect and report a detailed school history to help in the formation of educational recommendations.
+ Attend meetings/staff development as required and present educational information as needed.
+ Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or Child Development is required with one year of relevant teaching experience required.

+ Bachelor's degree in behavioral health field and 3 years of relevant teaching experience required.

+ Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or Child Development required with six months of relevant experience required.
+ Ability to relate sensitively to students and be consistently responsive to their needs.
