    + Respond to emergencies; assess the condition of the resident; decide on the type of medical attention; call appropriate ambulance service if needed; notify family when resident is transferred or admitted to the hospital; notify the physician when a change in condition occurs.

    **Responsibilities:**

    + The LPN is licensed to function as a member of the health-care team by exercising sound nursing judgment based on preparation, knowledge, experience in nursing and competency. The LPN participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care using focused assessment in settings where nursing takes place.An LPN shall communicate with a licensed professional nurse and the patient's health care team members to seek guidance when:? The patient's care needs exceed the licensed practical nursing scope of practice.? The patient's care needs surpass the LPN's knowledge, skill or ability.? If graduated in 2012 to present day, IV therapy curriculum is included in the PA State Board Approved Programs. If graduated prior to 2012, the LPN will need to provide official proof of completion of IV therapy approved program.

    + Must take nurse assignment at the top of LPN license in a med/surg/tele or Emergency Department setting.

    + **Labor & Delivery** – We work with two UPMC owned OB/GYN practices, comprised of Obstetricians and Midwives, dedicated to caring for patients experiencing normal/natural childbirth, as well as complicated high-risk deliveries. The Labor & Delivery Hall houses 6 labor rooms, 3 triage rooms, 1 operating room and 2 PACU bays located within the unit. Previous postpartum or labor & delivery experience is preferred, however, other candidates will be considered.

    + **Postpartum** – The postpartum hall houses 16 spacious rooms and a procedural nursery, allowing us to provide services and care to well mother-baby couplets, along with mothers with high-risk postpartum conditions. Surgical patients who have undergone C-section delivery or have had hysterectomies or breast surgeries are also cared for here. Care provided in this part of our unit provides staff with the extremely rewarding opportunity to impact and educate new families as well as occasionally work through adoption and surrogate scenarios.

    + **Level II NICU** – We are proud to offer a 6-bed NICU for the care of our smallest patients and those who need extra help transitioning at birth. We provide care to infants born at 32 weeks gestational age or greater needing additional respiratory or nutritional support after birth. Neonatal Nurse Practitioners staff in house 24 hours per day, however we connect with our colleagues at higher acuity institutions within the system by utilizing Telemedicine technology to ensure that each patient receives the best possible care. Previous NICU experience is preferred, however, other candidates will be considered.
