**Job Summary:** Performs entry level work under supervision using MIG welding equipment and a turntable.

**Essential Functions:**

+ Read, understand and follow prints.

+ Align and weld together metal components of products.

+ Guide electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length or arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead.

+ Weld in flat, horizontal or vertical positions.

+ Clean part and weld joints using a wire brush or portable grinder.

+ Perform 1 st piece inspection.

+ Verify parts for conformance to specification using measuring devices.

+ Safely and efficiently operate weld equipment.

+ Maintain a clean and organized work area.

**Education/Experience:**

+ High school diploma or GED.

+ Vo-tech graduate preferred.

+ Minimum of 1 year related experience.

+ Certified on fillet welds according to WTTI (Welder Training & Testing Institute) Process GMAW-1G and/or GTAW.

+ Familiar with micrometers, calipers and/or gages to check accuracy of work.

**Physical Demands:**

+ Visual acuity plus eye hand coordination.

+ Must be detailed oriented.

+ Able to sit for 10 hours, lift up to 35 pounds, bend, reach with hands/arms, push/pull to move product using a pallet jack.

+ Able to use measurement tools to inspect parts.

**Work Environment:**

+ Must be able to work in an unair-conditioned shop environment.

+ The noise level in the work environment is normal for a machine shop.

+ Weld helmet, welding jacket, gloves, safety shoes and safety glasses are required.

+ At the request of faculty, facilitate and support student instruction as needed, including formal presentations of tools and techniques. Develop new training/instruction models as needed.

+ Operate industrial laser cutters. Provide student instruction as needed on appropriate file formatting and material suitability. Demonstrate proficiency in required software platforms and software updates.

+ Understand, follow, and enforce all safety protocols and the general orderly conduct of the Lab as defined by best practices, Environmental Health and Radiation Safety, Fire and Emergency Services, Risk Management, and all other associated safety offices, especially during periods of peak demand.

+ Assist in the maintenance and repair of all Lab equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

Primary Responsibilities:

+ Performs all-position MIG welding to join steel and aluminum metals from 1/16”- to 1”-thick plate

+ Interprets and carries out work orders, blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions

+ Clamp parts into jigs or holding fixtures

**SUMMARY**

This position is responsible for operating welding equipment to build high quality parts, subassemblies, and finished product. Weldments vary in type, size, and direction and are performed on a variety of production lines.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

+ Must receive a passing score on the Welder Qualification test and recertify skills as required by program guidelines

+ Operate an overhead crane to maneuver parts safely into place

+ Adjust welding current to proper weld configurations

+ Heats and forms metal parts and components using hand tools, torch or welding equipment

+ Welds components in flat, vertical or overhead positions

+ Accurately operate and read measuring devices

+ Assemble and weld various metal parts together

+ Properly position material/parts to be welded

+ Train and work in various areas of production in response to production demands

+ Follow verbal and written work instructions including ability to read blue prints

+ Attention to detail necessary to adhere to quality standards

+ Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations

+ Work in both team and individual settings

**Do you pride yourself in being a jack-of-all trades?** The **Welder** position is critical to support plant needs by ensuring a safe and productive work environment. This position requires welding certification. Primary duties include performing the layout of work and all types of welding on stationary and mobile equipment. May also assist in maintenance work or other work as assigned.
