Description

JOB SUMMARY: As an Instructor of Academic Services and Student Transition, the faculty member provides leadership to a collaborative campus-wide culture for student success. Specifically, provides oversight, leadership and overall day-to-day oversight which includes but is not limited to Success Coaching, First Year Experience, and Transfer Student Services; In addition, the Individual must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills. Provides student advisement and associated services as appropriate.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following are a list of exercises that may be required as a member of the faculty from time to time:

+ Promotes and preserves the mission of LECOM;

+ Works cooperatively with colleges and departments on programs that support undergraduate student transition and success, including but not limited to financial aid, Admissions, and others;

+ Serves as a point of contact and provides success coaching on a walk-in or appointment basis and makes referrals to appropriate campus resources, school advising offices, academic departments, career center, and other resources as necessary, and provides relevant presentations to students;

+ Stays abreast of developments in the field of student persistence and academic success;

+ Develops, oversees and assesses programs and services that are informed by best practices in higher education to improve retention and graduation rates and empower undergraduates to succeed academically;

+ Supports student success (retention, graduation, participation in high-impact practices, career outcomes, wellbeing);

+ Review school life balance by discussing approaches to being successful in school (i.e. healthy eating, sleep review, study habits…etc.);

+ Manages and facilitates program activities, to include presentation, classes, trainings, conferences, seminars, and/or other special projects;

+ Oversees assessment, continuous improvement, technology and accountability initiatives;

+ Oversees communications, promotions and public relations related to Student Transition and Success programing and other appropriate initiatives;

+ Facilitates professional development opportunities for staff members;

+ Serves on committees as appropriate;

+ Presents to students through classroom and department opportunities, and student organizations;

+ Participates in a duty rotation with Student Affairs;

+ Occasional evening, night or weekend work required;

+ Completes an annual Self-Assessment;

+ Maintains the confidentiality of all proprietary information of LECOM and all student educational records and comply with the provisions of FERPA;

+ Faculty member will contribute and be responsible for overall student success, including, but not limited to, advising and student outcomes;

+ Faculty member will contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM embodying the essence of Osteopathic Principles and Practices by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction;

+ Faculty member will participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;

+ Faculty member will commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including, but not limited to, serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers and overall outreach; and

+ Other duties at the direction of the Assistant Dean or his/her designee as required / needed to maintain an efficient and effective Institution.

Minimum Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS : Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

+ Knowledge of student and patient’s privacy (i.e. FERPA, HIPAA…etc.);

+ Strong communications skills are essential, as well as, experience in the generation, analysis and dissemination of data;

+ Extensive knowledge of integrated databases and software (Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, as well as, accurate data entry skills;

+ Promote evidence-based decision-making across the Institution for program review, strategic planning, and policy development;

+ Excellent organizational skills;

+ Maintaining an established work schedule;

+ Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills including tact and diplomacy;

+ Effectively using organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow-through;

+ Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands;

+ Maintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials;

+ Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;

+ The ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations;

+ The ability to report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM;

+ The ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner; and

+ Be able to be flexible to accept other duties needed/assigned for the Institution’s needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Education and experience equivalent to: a minimum of a Master ’s Degree from an accredited program required. Successful experience in a higher education institution required.
