Job Description Summary
This position is a key member of our large team and as a member of the team is responsible for supporting the basic philosophy of Penn Children's Center: "Learning through Play."
Job Description
Responsibilities:
+ Assist the teaching staff, in any manner required, in order to foster the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of each child.
+ Enable and assist the teaching staff in guiding, and supervising children 12 weeks to 5 years in accordance with NAEYC, Keystone Stars, and DHS guidelines.
+ Assist teaching staff in carrying out daily activities and lesson plans according to the HighScope curriculum.
+ Arrange and maintain educational materials and equipment.
+ Operate, and participate, in an environment that is grounded in respect, appreciate diversity, and believes in the "art of the possible" and the "power of positivity."
Qualifications:
+ A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate is highly preferred. In the absence of a high school diploma or general educational development certificate a minimum of an 8th grade education and 2 years of experience with children.
+ Strong communication, collaboration and nurturing skills.
+ Evidence of initiative and adaptability to change.
+ Flexibility to work during Center operating hours as required to ensure appropriate service provision and to meet licensing ratio (i.e. normally between 7:30am-6:00pm).
+ Experience working with a diverse group of families.
+ Skills in language, art, music or drama highly regarded.
+ The ability to maintain a positive attitude and demeanor, even when things don't go well.
+ A comprehensive background check will be undertaken for this position.
About Penn Children's Center
The Penn Children's Center is for children ages three months to five years. Located on the University campus, the Center is administered by the Division of Business Services. Enrollment in the Penn Children's Center is open to all members of the University and surrounding communities with preference given to faculty, staff and students of the University.
